Craftsman Kits

I personally design each of the craftsman kits that Scale Creations produces to the highest level of realism that I can obtain. I stay as true as possible to the original structure in regards to the dimensions and the feel of the building. Many railroad buildings in the US are works of art themselves, and I try to capture the beauty and the craftmanship of the original structure. I refuse to use stock plastic windows and other features of the building. Every window, trim piece or any other detail is designed for that craftsman kit. During the design process, I cut each part as many times a necessary to keep the tolerances to within a few thousandths of an inch. Once I'm satisfied that the design is a true representation of the original building. I cut all of the parts again, and begin the assembly, writing the instructions as I go. As I proceed through the assembly, I take photographs of the assemble to assist the modeler .

Detail Parts

I've built detail parts for my layout from many different companies over the years, and there was usually something about the parts that I didn't like. Parts that didn't look realistic, or if they did, they were a pain to assemble. And some just cost way too much. When I started Scale Creations, I was determined to design more realistic parts that were easier to assemble.

Take our shipping pallets for example. I'm sure everyone has put a few of these together and have gotten frustrated cutting stripwood for them. My pallets come in two pieces, a top and a bottom. I use my laser system to engrave the depth into the top piece, eliminating the need to cut a boatload of stripwood pieces. It's understandable why other companies don't go to this trouble. A sheet of 20 Scale Creations pallets takes me about 6 minutes to cut on my laser. It only takes the other companies about 20 seconds to cut their sheet of 20 pallets. But I think that the extra time is worth it to give the modelers a much better, more realistic product.

I put the same care and time into all of the detail parts that I design. Click here to take a look at what we offer and I'm sure you'll agree.

Scratchbuilding supplies

For all of the Craftsman Kits that I designed, I engrave the exterior wall detail into the wood rather than buying the pre-milled sheets. I could save a lot of time cutting my kits by using the milled sheets, but just like in my detail parts, I feel that my end result is much better. And I've been told by many modelers that my walls look better than most of the prepared sheets on the market today. So I'm releasing a line of Scratchbuilding Supplies that will include clapboard siding, board and batten siding, scribed siding and brick wall sheets.
